Nina Notman explores how 3D printing is carving out a niche for itself in the pharmaceutical industry

In 2015, the FDA approved the first 3D printed tablet, Spritam. It’s complex latticework – allowing it to be dispersed in high dose in the mouth – can only be made using 3D printing. The industry hopes this will be the first of many treatments to benefit from the technology.
