Answer to puzzle of why such similar polyethers behave so differently could lead to better predictions of a molecule’s solubility

Why is one polyether like the one used to make Keck clips insoluble in water when a very similar one like polyethylene glycol (PEG) is? German and Dutch researchers have solved this little chemical mystery, but the work could go beyond a chemical curiosity and actually help scientists better understand and predict a chemical’s solubility.
